After the failures/lessons of the first two Sprocket Photography experiments, we’re finally able to take some proper photos!
In this first installment of Sprocket Models, we’ve got Rachel Dashae out of Pittsburgh. At the end of February we shot a few rolls of expired Fuji Superia X-TRA 400 for this project in West Los Angeles, cutting it up about our favorite books and philosophizing about whatever came to mind in the process. With a now-heavier Kindle and a mind full of possibilities, we grabbed the Mamiya RZ67proII and got to work.
As we progress through this series it will be interesting to see how we can really explore the strengths of the format. Just from the rolls we shot here I can see how the wider-than-average image can lend itself to some really cinematic shots in regards to framing, which has me really excited. There’s also the ability to rotate the back on the RZ67 (shooting the film vertically) which could be an interesting look. There’s definitely a place for vertical photography in today’s digital world, so we’ll see how that goes.
